Cemetery Symbolism

 Most of the grave markers in the Polk cemetery no longer exist. The remaining grave markers show unique and rich funerary symbolism common in the 18th century. The time period, grave marker shapes and professional quality of the stone, style attribute the source of the grave markers to Bigham Stone Cutters, active until the 1820s.
